A Lagos State pilgrim, Oloshogbo Isiaka Idris, has passed away in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, during the holy pilgrimage.

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSMPWB) announced Idris’ death, which occurred on Tuesday after he returned from performing tawaf (circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba).

The board’s assistant director, Taofeek Lawal, conveyed that Idris, a 68-year-old from Shomolu Local Government Area, died while having his evening meal after the Maghrib prayer.

LSMPWB secretary, Saheed Onipede, reported that the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed but suggested it might be linked to high blood pressure and the physical strain from the tawaf.

He extended condolences from the state government to Idris’ family and friends, praying for his forgiveness and acceptance into Aljanah.

In accordance with Saudi Arabian protocol, Idris was buried in Makkah. The janaza prayer was observed by board member Waheed Shonibare, alongside other state officials and pilgrims at the Kaabah.

Meanwhile, the final group of Lagos pilgrims was scheduled to depart from Madinah to Makkah on Thursday to continue their hajj rituals.

During their stay in Madinah, the pilgrims engaged in various religious activities, including prayers at Masjid Nabawi, visits to significant Islamic sites, and tributes at the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Dr. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe, praised the pilgrims’ conduct in Madinah, expressing hope for similar behavior in Makkah. LSMPWB Chairman, Imam Shakiru Gafar, commended the pilgrims’ patience and assured them of continued support and comfort during their pilgrimage.
