The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the free surgical mission was part of concerted efforts to improve the accessibility of residents to healthcare.

He said, “Enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary health care facilities in all wards across the state. Patients will, however, need to provide their National Identification Number and a passport photograph during enrollment for the programme.”

Filani said the exercise, which would be conducted across various healthcare facilities in the state, “will cater to a wide range of surgical needs, including Caesarian sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removal, hydrocele as well as some other minor and major surgical procedures.”

The commissioner stated, “The initiative is designed to ensure that all residents, particularly those who are underserved and financially disadvantaged are provided with access to necessary surgical interventions without the burden of cost.

“The key objectives of the Free Surgical Mission include: enhancing healthcare access, providing free surgical services to residents who might otherwise be unable to afford such care as well as providing improved health outcomes and addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact quality of life and overall health.”

He explained that the surgeries will be performed at selected hospitals equipped with the necessary facilities and personnel “to ensure safe and effective outcomes while post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that might arise.”
