The Ghana Football Association has named experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the Ghana Football Association on Monday.
Queiroz, who has previously managed top sides including Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as national teams like Portugal national football team and Iran national football team, is expected to bring his vast experience to the role.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars,” the statement said.
The veteran tactician boasts significant World Cup experience, having guided South Africa national football team to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.

His coaching résumé also includes stints with national teams such as Egypt national football team, Oman national football team, Japan national football team and Qatar national football team.

Queiroz is set to begin work immediately as he prepares Ghana for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and United States.

Ghana have been drawn in a group alongside England national football team, Panama national football team and Croatia national football team, and will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, Canada.
