The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a stern warning of a nationwide university shutdown if their demands are not met, following months of unpaid salaries.

Alongside the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), SSANU has engaged in discussions with the Federal Government regarding the four-month salary arrears owed to their members.

Earlier actions included a warning strike and a recent ultimatum, which have not resulted in satisfactory outcomes. SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim announced plans for protests scheduled nationwide on Tuesday, July 9th, to highlight their grievances and call for immediate action from the government.

“If our demands remain unmet after these protests, we will escalate to a grand protest in Abuja on July 18th,” Ibrahim stated. The protest aims to picket the offices of the Ministers of Education and Labour, whom the union accuses of lacking seriousness in resolving the matter.

Ibrahim emphasized that if the government fails to address their concerns following these actions, SSANU and NASU will proceed with a comprehensive, indefinite strike without concessions. This declaration underscores their resolve to ensure their members’ rights and fair treatment are upheld amid ongoing challenges.
