Massive Surrender of Boko Haram Terrorists as Nigerian Troops Gain Momentum

As Operation Lake Sanity 2 advances, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has reported the significant surrender of 263 Boko Haram terrorists and their families in Sector 1, Cameroon, between July 10 and July 17, 2024.

In a statement released on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief Military Public Information Officer at HQ MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, detailed the wave of surrenders. The initial surrender occurred on July 11, 2024, when five terrorists turned themselves in to MNJTF troops at the Wulgo border between Nigeria and Cameroon. These individuals originated from Tumbuma and Kutumgulla in Nigeria’s Marte Local Government Area.

On the same day, Malum Kori Bukar, a 50-year-old, escaped from the Jibilaram hideout and surrendered to the troops. Additionally, 19 terrorists surrendered in the village of Madaya, Extreme North Cameroon, while another 11 surrendered in Wulgo from the Tumbuma hideout in two waves.

The trend continued on July 12, 2024, with 64 individuals surrendering in Bonderi, Cameroon, including six adult males, 20 women, and 38 children. The following day, July 13, saw 27 more terrorists surrender.

The surrenders peaked on July 15, 2024, with 102 individuals surrendering in Bonderi, Extreme North Cameroon, comprising 20 adult men, 40 women, and 42 children. Additionally, five individuals surrendered in Wulgo, with two coming from the Tumbuma hideout in southern Lake Chad. On July 16, 2024, two more terrorists surrendered, followed by the surrender of 48 terrorists and their families on July 17, including 10 adult males, 15 females, and 23 children.

The statement confirmed that all surrendered individuals are Nigerians. They have been handed over to the troops of Operation HADIN KAI for further action.
