The House of Representatives has extended an invitation to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyode, to appear before a joint committee investigating bribery allegations against the commission.

This follows social media reports accusing EFCC officers of accepting a ₦15 million bribe from crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to drop money laundering charges.

In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the committee also summoned the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service and all officers involved in the case. The investigation stems from a leaked voice recording alleging that Bobrisky secured VIP treatment in prison in exchange for a bribe. Social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, who released the recording, has also been invited.

Bobrisky has been accused of bribing officials to avoid full prison sentencing, with claims that he was allowed to serve his time in a private VIP facility. The EFCC, in response, has launched its investigation, inviting both Bobrisky and Otse for questioning. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has also urged the Attorney General of the Federation and the National Security Adviser to conduct independent probes into the bribery allegations.

These investigations are aimed at restoring public trust in the Nigerian justice system and ensuring accountability within the EFCC and Nigeria’s correctional services.
