The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed three spots to 36th in the world in the latest October FIFA rankings.
According to the rankings released on Thursday by FIFA, Nigeria accumulated 1503.29 points during the period under review. This position is attributed to the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 11 in Uyo.
The improvement also reflects in their continental standing, with Nigeria now ranked fourth in Africa, surpassing their previous sixth position. They trail only Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.
Globally, October was a busy month in football, with 32 FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, 47 CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendlies. These fixtures contributed to shifts in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.
Argentina maintains the top spot, but their lead over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has narrowed. England (4th), Brazil (5th), and Belgium (6th) held their positions. Portugal (7th) and Italy (9th) climbed by one place each, while the Netherlands (8th) and Colombia (10th) dropped a spot. Germany (11th) moved up two positions and is closing in on the top 10.
In Africa, Algeria (37th), Cameroon (49th), and several other nations like Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, The Gambia, and Botswana also made notable gains in the rankings.
