Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has dismissed online rumors about the death of Nigerian billionaire businessman Mike Adenuga.

Adenuga, widely recognized as Africa’s fifth-richest person by Forbes, owns Globacom, Nigeria’s second-largest telecom operator, with operations in Ghana and the Benin Republic.

Speculation emerged on social media claiming the 71-year-old had passed away. However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night, Dele Momodu assured the public that Adenuga is alive, healthy, and actively involved in Nigeria’s economic development.

Momodu wrote: “Ignore the fake news… The Spirit of Africa DR MICHAEL ADENIYI AGBOLADE ISOLA ADENUGA is hale and hearty. He’s right now at his desk working round the clock in support of the Nigerian economy. He just called me to thank everyone for their concern.”

Adenuga, a self-made billionaire, earned his first million in 1979 at age 26 through lace trading and soft drink distribution.

Over the years, he has received numerous accolades, including being named African Entrepreneur of the Year at the inaugural African Telecoms Awards in 2007.

In May 2015, he made headlines with a $600 million bid to acquire Comium Côte d’Ivoire, a mobile telecom operator in Ivory Coast.

Mike Adenuga remains a prominent figure in Africa’s business landscape.
