The visit followed Xi’s attendance at the G20 Summit in Brazil and highlighted China’s increasing investment in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sectors in recent years.

Morocco’s strategic location near Europe, along with its free trade agreements with the EU and the U.S. and its established automotive industry, has made it an attractive destination for Chinese electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturers.

In June, Chinese EV battery producer Gotion High Tech announced plans to establish Africa’s first gigafactory in Morocco, with an investment of $1.3 billion. This development reflects the deepening economic ties between the two nations and Morocco’s growing importance in global clean energy supply chains.
