A deadly drone strike on a fuel station in southern Khartoum yesterday resulted in 28 fatalities and 37 injuries, with 29 of the wounded suffering from severe burns, three critically. The attack occurred at New Soug Sitta, near Bashair University Hospital in the densely populated Mayo neighborhood, which is controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Southern Belt Emergency Room, which provides medical aid in the region, reported the casualties and described the ongoing medical efforts to treat the victims. “Medical and relief efforts are continuing, with urgent calls for additional support,” the Emergency Room stated on Facebook.

The violence between the RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) continues to escalate. On Saturday, shelling by the RSF in Omdurman led to three additional deaths, while intense battles raged on in Khartoum North (Bahri). Today, Atbara Airport in northern Sudan was targeted by suicide drones in the early hours.

The Mayo district has been a stronghold for the RSF since the war between the RSF and SAF began on April 15 of last year, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
