The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has imposed a $30,000 fine on the Benin Football Federation for non-cooperation and misconduct during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda.
According to CAF, $5,000 of the fine was for violating Article 45 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, while an additional $50,000 was imposed for misconduct by Beninese officials at the end of the match.
However, $25,000 of the misconduct fine was suspended, reducing the total payable amount to $30,000.
In an official statement, CAF emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline in African football, stating: “The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Beninese Football Federation for its non-collaboration with the Disciplinary Board during their TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifiers fixture against Rwanda.”
The incident dates back to May 19, 2023, when Benin officials allegedly interrupted Rwanda’s official training session ahead of their AFCON 2023 qualifier match, prompting a formal complaint from Rwanda.
CAF reiterated that such penalties are essential to ensuring fair play and professional standards across the continent’s football competitions.
