Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) has confirmed his intention to run for governor of Lagos State in 2027 after his 2023 bid, where he was defeated by Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a recent interview, Rhodes-Vivour reaffirmed his political ambitions but remained non-committal on whether he would remain with the Labour Party (LP) or switch to another platform, stating, “By God’s grace, yes,” when asked about his candidacy. He emphasized the need for opposition parties to unite against what he described as a “state capture” in the country.

Rhodes-Vivour also expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, which he argued disproportionately benefit a select group close to the government while ordinary Nigerians face increasing hardships.

“The people are experiencing unprecedented hardship,” he said, pointing out that over 70% of incomes are spent on transportation and food, leaving little for accommodation. He criticized what he termed a culture of wastefulness in government, urging for more inclusive and equitable policies that would better serve the masses.
