The Lagos State House of Assembly has addressed the recent statement by former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who continues to assert his claim as the legitimate speaker.

In a statement signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, it was clarified that more than two-thirds of the lawmakers remain firmly united behind the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. The Assembly emphasized that the decision to impeach Obasa on January 13 stands resolute and unchangeable.

“As elected representatives of the people, our focus is on delivering good governance and maintaining a harmonious relationship with other arms of government,” Olukayode stated.

The statement further described Obasa’s insistence as “uncalled for and unparliamentary.” It reiterated that the majority of members had originally elected Obasa as Speaker for the 10th Assembly but later took a collective decision to remove him.

The Assembly urged the former speaker to embrace peace and harmony, aligning with the approach adopted by his colleagues.
