Former Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars have suspended their head coach, Usman Abdallah, for three weeks following the team’s recent poor run in the 2024/25 season and an inappropriate gesture towards fans during their last match.

The suspension was announced after the team’s goalless draw against Bayelsa United at home. In Abdallah’s absence, his assistant and former player, Ahmed Garba (Yaro Yaro), will take charge of the squad.

The club confirmed the decision via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday: “The management of Kano Pillars FC have suspended the club’s technical adviser, Usman Sheriff Abdallah, for three weeks over poor results and his gesture towards the fans after the Sai Masu Gida’s 0-0 draw against Bayelsa United.”

“Chief coach Ahmed Garba Yaro-Yaro will take charge of the team.”

The Sai Masu Gida have struggled in their last two matches. They suffered a 4-1 defeat against newly promoted Ikorodu City in Lagos on Wednesday before settling for a 0-0 draw against Bayelsa United on Sunday.

These disappointing results have seen Kano Pillars drop to 10th place on the NPFL table, with 29 points after 21 games. Yaro Yaro’s first test as interim coach will be a tough away fixture against league leaders Remo Stars at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne next Sunday.
