Governors from Nigeria’s South-West states have joined forces to create a joint security force, aimed at tackling increasing security challenges in the region.
This decision was made during a meeting of the South-West Governors’ Forum at Lagos House in Ikeja on Thursday.
The new joint security team will focus on addressing threats from Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram militants, who have been infiltrating the region.
The governors also agreed to enhance intelligence sharing among state security agencies and federal law enforcement authorities.
Additionally, the forum discussed issues related to food security and economic collaboration, including the establishment of food hubs and an inter-state monitoring team to curb price inflation.
