The Lagos State House of Assembly has refuted claims that 27 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are planning to defect to the Labour Party (LP).

In a statement on Wednesday, Ogundipe Olukayode, chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, dismissed the report as false and misleading, affirming that the APC remains united and focused.

“The Lagos State House of Assembly wishes to categorically debunk the malicious and unfounded publication alleging that 27 members of the Assembly are planning to defect from the ruling party to the opposition Labour Party. This publication is entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public,” the statement read.

Olukayode criticized the report, labeling it an attempt to create division within the Assembly and among Lagos residents. He clarified that recent leadership changes, including the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker, were internal matters conducted in line with Nigeria’s constitution.

He further emphasized that there is no intention among lawmakers to switch parties. “We were elected under the leadership of the APC, and the party remains committed to fulfilling its mandate to the people of Lagos. The falsehood being spread originates from agents of destabilization seeking to create unnecessary tension and division within the Assembly,” the statement added.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to party unity and governance, urging the public to disregard the rumors.
