Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has denied owning the funds and properties forfeited to the federal government.

The Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the final forfeiture of $4.7 million, N830 million, and multiple properties allegedly linked to Emefiele.

Emefiele’s legal team issued a statement distancing him and his immediate family from the ownership of the properties and funds. He acknowledged that some of the assets belong to his relatives, but asked those associating him and his family with the assets to stop doing so.

The former CBN governor also noted that the same federal high court had previously discharged an interim forfeiture order on the same assets, which is now ordered to be forfeited.

Emefiele’s legal team emphasized that the assets in question do not belong to him or any member of his immediate family.
