Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been provisionally suspended from all football activities in the country for 90 days as authorities investigate allegations of match manipulation.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the decision on Thursday, just hours after revealing it had launched an inquiry into the 37-year-old.

The case emerged after a video surfaced online, appearing to show Matasi agreeing to influence a match’s outcome. However, the BBC has not been able to verify the authenticity or date of the footage.

Matasi, who plays for Kenyan Premier League club Kakamega Homeboyz and has earned over 30 international caps, has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

Kakamega Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula stated that Matasi denied the allegations.

“He was shocked when he saw the video and told me he has no involvement in match-fixing,” Shimanyula told BBC Sport Africa. “Kakamega Homeboyz strongly opposes any form of match manipulation.”

Matasi last played for Kenya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon last October, a match Kenya lost 4-1.

The FKF has pledged to collaborate with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other relevant authorities throughout the investigation.
