The US government has successfully negotiated the release of Robert Vieira, an American citizen who was detained in Tunisia for 13 months on suspicion of espionage while doing missionary work.
US Special Envoy Adam Boehler confirmed Vieira’s release, stating he was flying back to the US with his family.
Boehler expressed appreciation to the Tunisian government for resolving the case, allowing Vieira to reunite with his family after over a year of pre-trial detention.
He credited his collaboration with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti for Vieira’s release.
