Libya has become a major transit route for migrants fleeing conflict and poverty in Africa, seeking to reach Europe via the treacherous Mediterranean route.

The country’s instability since the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 has contributed to the migrant crisis.

The Red Crescent is continuing to patrol the coast near Misrata, searching for any additional bodies that may have washed ashore.

This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean in search of safety and opportunity.
