Gabon’s President Brice Oligui Nguema has appointed Henri-Claude Oyima, the chief executive of BGFI Bank and head of the Gabonese Confederation of Businesses, as the Minister of State, Economy, Finance, and Debt.

Oyima’s appointment comes after Nguema’s landslide victory in the presidential election in April.

The new president has vowed to boost agriculture, industry, and tourism in the oil-dependent economy and fight corruption.

Oyima’s expertise is expected to help tackle the country’s acute liquidity shortage.

Nguema seized power in 2023 from the Bongo family, which had ruled Gabon for over 50 years.
