Popular rights activist and social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

VDM was arrested by EFCC operatives at a Guaranty Trust Bank branch in Abuja on Friday over allegations raised by some petitioners.

The arrest sparked widespread controversy, with several notable figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Davido, calling for his immediate release.

Some youths also staged a protest in Abuja, describing his arrest and detention as unlawful.

VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed his release, which came after the activist met his bail conditions.

The EFCC had stated that VDM would be released once he met the bail conditions and that the case would be taken to court as soon as possible.
