The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primaries for local government areas in Lagos State are currently underway at the party secretariat in Ikeja, amidst tight security and high delegate turnout.

The primaries come ahead of the July 12 elections scheduled by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to fill 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship positions across the state.

A heavy security presence surrounds the venue, with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) deployed to maintain law and order. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, was seen personally monitoring the situation to ensure a peaceful process.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) are also on-site to control traffic and maintain order around the venue.

Vehicular movement along ACME Road and other nearby streets has been restricted, leading to traffic congestion and forcing commuters to use alternate routes.

Meanwhile, hundreds of APC delegates from across the 57 council areas have arrived for screening and accreditation. The exercise, though initially scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., experienced a slight delay to allow delegates traveling from distant areas to participate.

Speaking briefly with journalists before the start of accreditation, the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, appealed to members of the press for objective and balanced coverage of the primaries.

Ogala assured that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a smooth process. He emphasized the committee’s commitment to transparency and inclusiveness, stressing that every delegate would have the opportunity to participate fully.
