Zimbabwe has introduced a new electronic visa application system as part of efforts to modernise its immigration services and enhance travel convenience for international visitors. The upgrade is part of the expanded Online Border Management System (OBMS), which now supports e-visas, e-permits, and digital travel clearance.

Chief Immigration Officer Respect Gono announced the development, noting that the system allows travellers from visa-required countries to apply entirely online, eliminating the need for physical visits to embassies or consular offices.

“The e-visa facility is now fully functional, and nationalities that require prior visa approval can now apply online,” said Gono. She added that the digital platform would save time, reduce paperwork, and lower costs for applicants who previously relied on postal services or in-person submissions.

In addition to tourist visas, Zimbabwe has begun offering e-permits for those planning longer stays, including for employment, residence, and investment purposes. Some modules—such as temporary employment and investor residence permits—are already operational, while others are still being finalised.

The OBMS, introduced in 2024, is part of Zimbabwe’s broader digital transformation agenda to improve service delivery, strengthen border security, and attract more tourists and investors.

Industry stakeholders have praised the initiative, saying the user-friendly platform will improve Zimbabwe’s global appeal and make it easier for visitors and businesspeople to access the country.
