Four suspected Ethiopian Dassanech militiamen have been arrested in connection with the killing of four Kenyan fishermen near the Todonyang border.

The suspects were captured during a sting operation in their hideouts along River Omo and are currently being held at the Omorate Police Station in Ethiopia’s South Omo region.

According to Omorate Woreda administrator Tadale Hate, the suspects surrendered after security officers detained their parents.

Kenyan authorities have been informed and are expected to participate in an identification parade to confirm the arrests.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and local leaders, who are demanding immediate action from the national government to secure the border and prevent further attacks.

This recent attack is part of a long-standing cycle of violence in the Todonyang region, fueled by ethnic tensions, resource competition, and border disputes.

In February, over 30 people were killed in the area in one of the deadliest massacres in recent history.

Authorities on both sides of the border are committed to joint efforts aimed at restoring peace and preventing further loss of life.
