The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two British nationals, Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra and Ayedipe Andrew Adejuwon, along with two Nigerians, Shonowo Oluwaseun Imole and Ofuoma Omokaro Ayobami, for attempting to smuggle 92 bags of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 51.10kg, into Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos.

The suspects were intercepted on May 22, with Alexander being caught with the consignment upon his arrival from Doha, while Adejuwon, Imole, and Ayobami were waiting to receive the cargo in an SUV.

According to the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the agency’s operatives had processed intelligence on the suspects’ plans and allowed Alexander to pass through security control unhindered, closely monitoring him to the car park where the other suspects were waiting.

The NDLEA’s swift action led to the successful interception of the illicit substance.

In a related development, the NDLEA also intercepted six million pills of opioids and 332,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth N6.52 billion at the Port Harcourt and Apapa ports.

The seizures followed intelligence and tracking of new trafficking routes used by drug cartels to ship illicit substances into Nigeria.

The agency has admonished Nigerians to exercise vigilance when accepting packages for travel, warning that drug traffickers often use unsuspecting individuals to smuggle illicit substances into the country.
