NIGERIA: Court Sentences Killer of NYSC Member Salome Adaidu to Death by Hanging

The High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of the brutal killing and dismemberment of the corps member. The court held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Ajayi was charged with one count of culpable homicide, an offence contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code applicable in Northern Nigeria, and punishable by death.

The gruesome case, which sparked outrage across the country, involved the killing of Adaidu, who was serving in Nasarawa State at the time of her death.

Further details surrounding the judgment and the court’s findings are expected to be released later.
