Patrick Osoi, a former Kenya Defence Forces officer and security expert, has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) just days after launching a campaign against police brutality and extrajudicial killings in Kenya.

Osoi was detained on Tuesday night and later confirmed to be held at Muthaiga Police Station, facing charges related to “preparation to commit a felony.”

His communication team initially claimed he was “abducted by heavily armed men” and detained without explanation.

Osoi’s arrest comes after he announced the launch of the Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI) movement, which aims to expose and combat cases of police misconduct and extrajudicial killings.

The initiative comprises former officers and is dedicated to fighting for the rights of Kenyans mistreated by the police.

Osoi’s team has called for his release, sparking concerns about the government’s response to human rights activism in Kenya.
