Minister of Education Tunji Alausa has stated that President Bola Tinubu has directed that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other bodies in tertiary institutions across Nigeria should never embark on strike again.

Alausa made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, saying the government is determined to end recurring strikes in tertiary institutions.

He explained that past administrations often reneged on agreements reached with union leaders, despite holding cordial meetings with them.

Alausa assured that the current government is committed to building a strong relationship with the unions and meeting its obligations to them.

He also said lecturers’ salaries remain regular, explaining that delays stem from the migration to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) after exiting the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The minister’s comments came shortly after the Yobe State University branch of ASUU called off its strike, which began on July 11.
