The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a 21-day strike notice to the Federal Government over what it described as the government’s lackadaisical approach to addressing its 14-point demand.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, ASUP President, Sunday Kpanja, outlined key concerns, including the non-implementation of the minimum wage in several states and the persistent dichotomy between polytechnic and university graduates. He also cited delays in implementing the dual-mode policy that would allow polytechnics to run degree programmes, the non-renegotiation of the 2010 agreement, and the outsourcing of programme accreditation.

Kpanja criticised the recently introduced Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), stating that it was unacceptable for the government to owe workers while simultaneously offering them loans.

ASUP urged the government to demonstrate genuine commitment to improving the quality and standard of education in Nigeria, warning that failure to address these issues within the notice period could lead to industrial action.
