The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the last round of the 2024 Olympic Qualifier after defeating Cameroon 1-0 in Abuja.

The Eleven-time African Champions started to pose threat on the Cameroonian defense with Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo leading the attack. The Super Falcon’s all-important goal came in the 14th minute when Jennifer Echegini dribbled her way into the penalty area before passing to Esther Okoronkwo who shot the ball past the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

The UD Tenerife Forward, Esther Okoronkwo had the chance to double the Falcon’s lead but her effort was denied by the Cameroon goalkeeper, Biya Carthy. The keeper was also put into action denying Rasheedat Ajibade a goal-scoring opportunity. Nigeria was forced to make changes in the 41st minute as Tosin Demehin was replaced by Halimatu Ayinde due to an Injury.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon got a player sent off in the 91st minute after Aboudi Onguene’s dangerous foul on Nigerian Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie. The Super Falcons held on till the 90th minute to ensure qualification to the next phase of the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers where they will face the winner between South Africa and Tanzania. The South African ladies have a three-goal advantage over Tanzania in the first leg.
