The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned what it perceives as a plot to prevent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming her duties at the National Assembly following her six-month suspension.

According to the PDP, the National Assembly clerk’s letter barring her return is “provocative” and poses a “clear and present danger to democracy”.

The party alleges that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership are behind the move, aiming to deny Kogi Central representation.

The PDP views this attempt as a blatant disregard for the constitution and Senate rules, accusing Akpabio of silencing opposition voices and suppressing women in politics. The party cites allegations of harassment against women linked to Akpabio and urges the National Assembly clerk to withdraw the letter.

Furthermore, the PDP calls on the international community and human rights groups to condemn this perceived attack on democratic institutions.

Despite the National Assembly’s stance, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, Victor Giwa, remains optimistic about her return, stating that everything is in place for her resumption.

The senator’s suspension expired on September 4, but the National Assembly has cited ongoing litigation as the reason for not allowing her to resume her duties.
