The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its five-day nationwide warning strike, allowing the government a two-week window to implement the demands outlined in their communiqué.

The suspension follows a virtual meeting of NARD’s National Executive Council, where the association considered the plight of Nigerians grappling with health issues under the current economic challenges.

NARD had embarked on the warning strike after a 24-hour ultimatum to the federal government expired without resolution.

The doctors’ demands include immediate payment of outstanding Medical Residency Training Fund, settlement of salary arrears, and other welfare issues.

The government has committed to addressing these issues, and NARD has given it a two-week deadline to fulfill its promises.

The association also urged the Oyo State Government to comply with a 15-day ultimatum issued by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to address issues affecting doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, warning of an indefinite solidarity strike if the demands are not met.

NARD remains committed to working with the government to ensure quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
