The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agun Gbenga, has died after slumping during an award ceremony in Benin City.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, where Gbenga was scheduled to receive an award from the International Association of World Peace Advocates.

Shortly after delivering his keynote address, Gbenga collapsed and was rushed to the Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The NSCDC spokesperson, Ogbebor Efosa, described Gbenga as an astute operations officer dedicated to protecting lives and property, known for his humility, friendliness, and commitment to excellence.

The commandant’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the security community, with tributes pouring in to honor his service.
