An Indrive driver, identified as James Oluwatosin, has publicly denied allegations of being an armed robber after a viral post accused him of luring passengers under false pretence to rob them.

The controversy began on Wednesday, October 15, when a social media user with the handle @Big_Itohan posted a photo of the driver alongside his Indrive details on X (formerly Twitter), warning the public against booking his ride. The user alleged that the driver pretends his car has a mechanical fault, parks on the roadside, and then robs unsuspecting passengers.

The post quickly went viral, sparking panic among commuters and widespread debate online. However, in a video released by Mr Oluwatosin, he strongly denied the claims, describing them as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation. He insisted that he had never engaged in criminal activity and accused the social media user of trying to “frame and destroy” him.

“I’m a hardworking driver trying to earn a living. I have never robbed anyone. This girl is lying against me and trying to ruin my life,” he said in the video.

The incident has triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians online, with many calling for proper verification before sharing unconfirmed allegations on social media, while others urged law enforcement agencies to investigate both parties.

As of press time, Indrive has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy, though public concern continues to grow over the impact of online defamation and misinformation on gig workers’ livelihoods.
