According to eyewitnesses, one of the trucks carrying unknown items veered off the road and crashed into the brick barricade of the bridge, severing the head of the truck and causing it to plunge into the river. Several occupants of the truck were still unaccounted for at the time of reporting.

The impact of the crash also caused a heavy gridlock on the expressway, grounding vehicular movement.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the accident, stating that eight casualties were recorded, but did not provide further details.

A video shared by the agency showed the affected trucks and lifeless bodies at the scene of the incident. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshals were on the ground attempting to salvage the situation.

The Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, attributed the accident to brake failure, stating that five articulated vehicles were involved in the incident.

Three people were injured and taken to the hospital, while a police inspector lost his life. The police are investigating the incident and have promised to prosecute those involved.

This accident occurred less than 24 hours after a truck fell on the Otedola Bridge, highlighting the need for improved road safety measures.
