Gunmen on Friday night abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu, located in Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants invaded the town around midnight, firing shots into the air to cause panic before whisking away the lawmaker.
Sources said the deputy speaker was seized shortly after observing prayers at a local mosque and was on his way home when the gunmen struck.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the incident saying security agencies had been alerted.
However, efforts to reach the Kebbi State Police Command for further details on the abduction were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the whereabouts of the lawmaker or the identity of his abductors.
