Fresh ethnic clashes on the Kenya-Ethiopia border have left five people critically injured, with four Ethiopian Dassanech militiamen and one Turkana herder receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

The confrontation occurred in the Herun grazing area, reportedly sparked by a Turkana youth raid on Dassanech herders, resulting in stolen livestock.

Omorate Deputy Administrator Omar Kamatee confirmed the incident, stating that the injured Dassanech tribesmen were taken to Omorate Health Centre before being referred to Jinka General Hospital in Ethiopia.

Kamatee appealed for peace, urging both communities to remain calm and support ongoing peace dialogues.

The clash has heightened tensions along the border, with both sides accusing each other of stealing livestock and fishing gear.

Local administrators and security officials from Kenya and Ethiopia’s South Omo region signed a peace pact on October 25, aiming to promote peaceful coexistence. Efforts to contact local authorities for further comment were unsuccessful.
