Chadian officials met with Nigerian military personnel to strengthen cross-border collaboration on security and trade, amidst reports of tightened border controls.
The visit, led by Chad’s consul general in Maiduguri, Bisso Youssouf Mbodou Mbami, aimed to improve security coordination and economic cooperation in the Lake Chad Basin.
Mbami called for stronger security and economic collaboration to tackle cross-border crime and insurgency, commending Nigeria’s resilience in counter-terrorism operations. He emphasized the need for dialogue to address trade and border challenges, sensitizing Chadian citizens on Nigeria’s trade laws.
Theatre Commander Abdulsalam Abubakar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability and intelligence sharing, describing Chad as a “trusted brother and strategic ally”.
Both delegations discussed regional stability, cross-border commerce, and Chadian citizens’ welfare in Nigeria, exchanging souvenirs and signing a visitors’ register.
