President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a second five-year term, effective immediately.

This decision was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Marwa, a seasoned military officer and administrator, was first appointed to the position in January 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

His reappointment means he will continue to lead the NDLEA until 2031.

A graduate of the Nigerian Military School and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Marwa has had a distinguished career, serving as military governor of Lagos and Borno States, and holding key positions such as brigade major, Aide-de-Camp to the Chief of Army Staff, and academic registrar of the NDA.

Marwa’s tenure at the NDLEA has been marked by significant achievements, including the arrest of over 73,000 drug mules and barons, and the seizure of more than 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances.

He has also spearheaded nationwide campaigns to combat drug abuse.

In his reappointment letter, President Tinubu praised Marwa’s efforts, stating, “Your reappointment is a vote of confidence in your onerous efforts to rid our country of the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse. I urge you not to relent in tracking the merchants of hard drugs, out to destroy our people, especially the young ones”.
