Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been named captain of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The 28-year-old takes over the leadership role following the international retirement of former captains William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa. Ndidi had previously worn the armband during Nigeria’s recent CAF 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs in Morocco, signaling the coaching crew’s confidence in his leadership.

Although he missed the rescheduled 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire due to injury, Ndidi remains one of the most experienced players in the squad, with 71 senior international caps since making his Super Eagles debut in August 2015.

A graduate of Nigeria’s youth teams, Ndidi featured at both U17 and U20 levels before establishing himself as a key figure in the senior national team. Known for his discipline, composure, and tactical intelligence, the defensive midfielder is expected to provide stability and guidance as Nigeria pursue success at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
