Somalia’s armed forces, with support from international partners, killed 29 al-Shabaab militants during an overnight operation in the town of Jabad Godane in the Middle Shabelle region.
In a statement released on Thursday, the country’s Defence Ministry confirmed the successful counter-terrorism mission, which also destroyed vehicles and weapons the group had intended to use in attacks against civilians.
Al-Shabaab has been waging an insurgency against Somalia’s internationally-backed government since 2007.
The ministry expressed its gratitude for the continued security cooperation and intelligence sharing from its international allies, though it did not specify which partners were involved in this particular operation.
