A Federal High Court in Abuja will rule on January 7, 2026, on the bail applications for former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, his son Abubakar Abdulaziz, and his wife Bashir Asabe.

The trio, who are currently being held at Kuje Correctional Centre, are facing a 16-count charge from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly laundering approximately ₦8.7 billion between 2015 and 2025.

After their arraignment on December 29, 2025, where they pleaded not guilty, Justice Emeka Nwite remanded them in custody and scheduled today’s hearing for their formal bail application.

During today’s proceedings, both the defense and prosecution presented their arguments, prompting the judge to set the new date for his final decision.

The EFCC’s charges allege that the defendants used various companies and property acquisitions in cities like Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi to conceal the origins of illicit funds, with the commission having traced over 41 properties valued at N212 billion to Malami and his associates.
