Torrential rain has forced the closure of Kruger National Park, with at least 19 people killed in South Africa’s northern provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The park has evacuated some guests and staff by helicopter, as flooding worsens.
A red level 10 warning has been issued, forecasting more rain and advising communities to remain alert.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, move valuables to safety, and avoid flooded roads. Climate change is linked to the increased frequency and severity of flooding in the region.
Helicopters and the military have been deployed to rescue those affected.
