Uganda’s military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has denied allegations that soldiers assaulted Barbara Kyagulanyi, wife of opposition leader Bobi Wine, during a raid at their home.

Wine, who is in hiding, claimed his wife was held at gunpoint and assaulted by military officers seeking his whereabouts.

Barbara Kyagulanyi, speaking from hospital, described the ordeal, saying she was hit, choked, and partially undressed by the officers.

Kainerugaba posted on X that his soldiers did not beat up Barbara Kyagulanyi, stating, “We do not beat up women.

They are not worth our time. We are looking for her cowardly husband, not her”. The incident follows President Yoweri Museveni’s landslide victory, which Wine rejected citing fraud.

The opposition alleges security forces have targeted its supporters, with Kainerugaba claiming 30 NUP supporters were killed and 2,000 detained
