The five-day Elders’ Games and Medical Outreach initiative launched by Honourable Suleiman Olanrewaju Affini has culminated in a colourful grand finale in Lagos, drawing large crowds of elderly residents, community leaders, and supporters from across Lagos Island Constituency II.

The closing ceremony, held on Saturday, marked the climax of a community-centred programme that blends sports, healthcare delivery, and social welfare for senior citizens, reinforcing growing calls for inclusive policies that prioritise the wellbeing of older Nigerians.

Organised by the Hon. Affini Elders’ Committee, the initiative featured competitive and recreational games such as walking football, board games, and traditional indoor sports, alongside free medical services including blood pressure checks, eye and dental screenings, tuberculosis testing, and general consultations.

Hundreds of elderly participants also received essential drugs and palliative support items.

Speaking at the grand finale, Honourable Affini described the programme as a deliberate effort to restore dignity to ageing and ensure that senior citizens remain visible, valued, and supported within their communities.

Winners of various game categories were presented with trophies, medals, and gift items, while all participants received consolation packages.

The atmosphere was festive, with music, light refreshments, and moments of reflection as elders shared personal stories and life lessons.

Community leaders at the event praised the lawmaker’s consistency, noting that the Elders’ Games is in its second edition, while the medical outreach has reached its fourth edition.

The grand finale closed with group photographs, cultural performances, and renewed calls for other public office holders to replicate similar people-focused interventions across the state.
