Mark Ashley’s wife Emma described her family’s shock at his death, while Karen Pooley’s husband Andy expressed their heartbreak.

The law firm Irwin Mitchell is representing the families and over 1,500 people who have fallen ill after visiting Cape Verde, alleging poor hygiene standards at resorts.

TUI has said it’s investigating the claims and provided support to affected customers. The incidents have raised concerns about food safety and hygiene in Cape Verde’s tourist industry.
