Senator Lola Ashiru, Deputy Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, has announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
Ashiru, who represents Kwara South Senatorial District, made the announcement while addressing executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his hometown of Offa Local Government Area.
Ashiru cited his experience, exposure, and credentials as qualifications for the role, emphasizing his understanding of Kwara State’s people and geography.
His announcement comes amidst heightened public outrage and grief following recent terrorist attacks in the state, including the killing of over 170 people in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area.
The senator has called for stronger border security and shared prosperity among border communities to reduce crime and ensure peace in the state.
He also acknowledged the sentiments in Kwara North, recognizing the call for power rotation and greater political representation.
