The Federal Government has begun implementing a 40% increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members, effective January 1, 2026.
This move is part of the renegotiated agreement between the government and ASUU, aimed at improving staff welfare and stabilizing the public university system.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced that some federal universities have already reflected the approved increase in their salary payments, with steps being taken to ensure uniform implementation nationwide.
Vice-chancellors have been directed to integrate the allowance increase into their payroll systems and ensure prompt payment.
The agreement also introduces a new Professorial Cadre Allowance, with full professors receiving ₦1.74m annually and readers earning ₦840,000 per annum.
The Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA) will support research, journal publications, and conference participation, among other academic activities.
