A Ghanaian court has sentenced former footballer Richard Appiah to life imprisonment for the murder of two children, Louis Agyemang (12) and Stephen Sarpong (15), in Abesim, Bono Region.
The victims’ bodies were found in Appiah’s home, with one body concealed in a refrigerator, sparking widespread horror and condemnation.
Appiah, 28, had pleaded insanity, claiming he suffered from schizophrenia, but the prosecution argued he acted with intent, pointing to evidence he concealed the bodies and participated in search efforts.
The seven-member jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict, and Justice Ruby Aryeetey sentenced Appiah to life imprisonment, citing the gravity of the crime.
The case has drawn national attention, renewing debates on violent crime, mental health evaluations, and justice administration.
